Pre Prep Program & Secondary Transition
Loch Lyrebirds Pre Prep Program
The Loch Lyrebirds Pre Prep Program is designed to support children with the transition from kindergarten to primary school.
The program aims to ensure students feel safe and secure in our school before they start the school year. It aims to enhance transition by becoming familiar with the facilities, equipment, teachers and other students. The program also has a focus on early literacy and numeracy development.
The program is run by qualified teachers at no cost and will run on Thursday and Friday mornings during Term 4. Parents are welcome to attend and are encouraged to meet in the staff room for morning tea and a chat.
There is evidence that starting school is a significant moment for children and their families and whilst a majority of children make this transition successfully, it is sometimes associated with anxiety, uncertainty and confusion. Our program aims to eliminate these feelings by providing explicit teaching of some critical skills that will prepare your child more adequately for school including: social, emotional, physical and academic skills.
- Pre writing, reading and numeracy activities
- Self-management skills
- Language skills and more
All students from Loch Primary School, (regardless of the secondary school they are attending) participate in an extensive transition program held at Korumburra Secondary College at the end of Term Three. Students develop an understanding of the different structures, timetabling, facilities, subjects, expectations and routines of a secondary school. They are involved in hands on practical classes and are given a guided tour of the grounds and facilities. These three days alleviate anxiety and build student confidence and excitement in the transition process.
